Wisdom of the babylonians

Am sure am not the only one who has read this book by George S. Clason called the richest man in Babylon. I would recommend it highly. He had a really good point i which i will share with you here because i have been applying it in my own life and i know now it works. its hard work but if am going to be a good manager of Gods affairs in my life then something has to be done about how i handle my finances. The end of the month kinda always got me off guard there and at some point i decided enough was enough i was not going to live like a slave to money and i would not let it control me either so i looked at his formula quite simply really and i adjusted it to suit my needs and my religion. Here is how it goes

1/10 (a tenth) of all you earn you tithe - or give back to God in your own way remember it pays to be a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7(NIV)

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.(how we handle material wealth is a barometer of our spiritual health.What will be the results of our giving? We should not give primarily to get, but Paul makes it clear that giving does lead to abundance. Cheerful givers experience God's love in a special way (9:7). They enjoy the spiritual blessing of participating in a rich harvest of righteousness (9:10).)

1/10 (a tenth) of all you earn you save - okay this was an extremly hard one until i realized it is true i never give myself or keep for a rainy day now that was painful..i have had a few experiences that teach you that having that extra something tacked somewhere is not such a bad thing. the bible does have quite a bit to say about this 
Proverbs 21:20 The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.
Proverbs 13:11(NIV) Dishonest money dwindles away,   but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.
 
2/10 (2 tenths) of all you earn you pay debts - this was a nice one. the bible and paying of debts

Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law

Romans 13:7-8 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.


and finally 
6/10 of what you earn is for spending on house hold issues of pay for your living.

Now for a mathematical example ...suppose you earn 7,000ksh
1/10 = 700ksh of which you tithe or give to charitable causes 
1/10 = 700ksh of which you save (and invest later in a profitable venture)
2/10= 1,400 ksh of which you pay creditors
6/10= 4200 ksh of which you pay for family issues like fees, rent, food and transport

remember its not always easy but a disciplined mind finally gets there.

MONEY MATTERS

Earlier i talked about  focusing in the right direction. Currently am doing a postmortem of my problems and the one that ranks highly is money related issues. It gives me a complete headache and causes me from time to time to have a fight with those that i love. So i decided i needed to hear what my God was going to tell me about all this and i went looking in the bible. and i will share what i found
  •  Gods will is that i recognize that i am a steward of all he has given me to manage for Him. He choses to entrust me with as much or as little as He desires (the word steward here refers to One who manages another's property, finances, or other affairs). Simply put i am a manager of what God chooses for me.
  • I am responsible for all i have been given and will give an account to God for the management of His resources. God will only entrust to me what is within my ability and not beyond it. Sometimes we try to get more than we can chew and it becomes a problem i rather love this idea that God will only allow me to manage that which i can.
  • God does and will expect an increase from what he has given me. Remeber the story of the servants who were given the "money" one invested and got 10 fold.........and there is that one who hid his.....God does indeed expect us to invest or manage wisely with his help. He says whoever lacks wisdom let him ask and God will give.
  • He who has promised is indeed faithful and he has said in His word that whoever takes care of the little he has been given he will be given authority over much.
We should remember that everything we have is ultimately a gift from God, the maker of everything. In Ecclesiates 5:19 it says "As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labour- this is a gift from God.
Also remember that God takes us a step at a time.So if you are faithful with what you have been given now - remember he gives the seed to the sower - he will give you authority over much.

counting my blessings

lately have been struggling with God. I need answers to so many questions it makes me want to cry but the deepest most profound needs have to do with the not fulfilled  desires. sometimes making me literally want to scream. then i came across the writing of Paul in one of my morning devotions and it simply said in Phillipians 4:12(NIV) I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 
and you know what secret that is
1. Focus on God He is bigger than your problem
2. Learn to tell him your real feelings. He knows them yes but like any good parent he knows if you talk about it it doesnt bother you anymore
3. Know that God does answer your prayers sometimes not at the click of your fingers but in the little blessings that he sends your way. eventually all of them added together make a profound miracle that no eye can deny
